View looking north from the bay platform. Again the skyline has changed with shops
being built over Union Street bridge. The track I was standing on is now in the middle
of the widened highway through the Denburn. The signal box is no more and only two
tracks head out of the station. The large gantry of signals was an impressive feature.
Passenger coaches stand in the downrefuse, which surprisingly, still exists, along
with the well of the turntable. In the backgroundare the domes of St Mark's church
and His Majesty's Theatre.
'350' shunter D3938, which was our shunting engine that day stands on a historical site.
The over bridge is the remains of the original south road through Aberdeen. The arched
bridge in the background (Bridge Street) is over Windmill Brae which was the main south
road via the Green and the Hardgate, where Cumberland's army marched up in 1746 prior to
the battle of Culloden. This became a series of back roads after Union Street was built 200
years ago. Again, this spot is below the Trinity Shopping Center and while the footbridge
is gone the railway is still crossed via the shopping center but level with Bridge Street.
This shot was taken from the two-story train crew mess room.
